NEW Statewide Disability Advocacy Program

The New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs is proud to announce the first Statewide Disability Advocacy Program for the state of New Mexico. Susanna Snyder joined the Coalition staff in October 2011 to lead this innovative initiative. Susanna is available to work with individuals and criminal justice providers throughout New Mexico to:
  • Provide specialized personal advocacy and aid with practical problems (i.e. supporting a victim to gain access to needed medical equipment, coordinating accessible transportation to services, etc.);
  • Secure services from other agencies to meet health and safety needs;
  • Provide assistance and advocacy at any stage of the criminal justice process;
  • Provide assistance in the application process for victim compensation benefits; and
  • Serve as a resource for agencies, service providers, and criminal justice/law enforcement regarding education and collaboration around the specific needs of crime victims with disabilities.

Susanna Snyder has been serving individuals with disabilities since 2000. She has supported a diverse spectrum of clients in a variety of therapeutic and direct service settings. Ms. Snyder currently serves as the Statewide Disability Advocate for the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs. This is a new position for New Mexico and it provides a unique opportunity to establish a coordinated response to violence against individuals with disabilities throughout the state. Susanna is responsible for providing direct services to victims with disabilities, as well as, providing training and technical assistance to victim advocates, disability advocates, law enforcement, prosecutors and other criminal justice related providers. Susanna earned her Master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, NM.
